  • Positions available for 2 years to undertake the Griffith Rural Training Pathway
  • The first 12 months spent in ED gaining the Emergency Medicine Certificate
  • The second 12 months electing an Accredited Advanced Skills Training position;
  • - Surgery accredited with RACGP/ACRRM as an Advanced Skills Training Position

    - Internal Medicine accredited with RACGP/ACRRM as an Advanced Skills Training Position

    - Emergency Medicine accredited with RACGP/ACRRM gaining the ACEM Emergency Medicine diploma in the 2nd year

    - Obstetrics and Gynaecology accredited with RACGP/ACRRM gaining the DRANZCOG Advanced

    - Paediatrics accredited with RACGP/ACRRM as an Advanced Skills Training Position

    - Anaesthetics accredited with RACGP/ACRRM as an Advanced Skills Training Position, gaining JCCA

  • The Career Medical Officer Position is provided for 24 months at Griffith Base Hospital. The first 12 months will be in the Emergency Department and the second 12 months will be in your choice of 3 advanced skill training position on offer.

    The Emergency Medicine year is accredited for 6 months extended skills with RACGP or Primary Rural and Remote Training with ACRRM. The trainee will be expected to complete the Emergency Medicine Certificate during the 12 month training time. The advanced skills positions are accredited with RACGP and ACRRM.

    Griffith Base Hospital is a 114-bed level four regional referral hospital with in excess of 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 surgeries and 600 births each year. Building has commenced for the $250 million hospital redevelopment.

    The hospital provides a range of acute specialist services (resident and visiting) including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal Dialysis and Rheumatology.

    About The Rural Training Pathway

    At Griffith Base Hospital we have a range of interesting and rewarding medical career pathways including:

    Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Pathway

  • ­Facilitated rotations including mandatory hospital rotations required for general registration, RACGP and ACRRM GP training.
  • Locally provided and facilitated education and development to support continued clinical learning.
  • Career Medical Officer (CMO) Pathway

  • ­Available to doctors awaiting a training position with a GP College training pathway or doctors intending to work as CMOs.
  • ­First year comprises Emergency Medicine, with essential training requirements including the Emergency Medicine Certificate (ACEM), DETECT, ALS1 and Emergency Management of Severe Trauma.
  • GP Pathway

  • ­Provides registrars with the required hospital and advanced procedural training experience to work towards fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
  • Doctors can apply to undertake GP training under AGPT, ACRRM Independent Pathway, the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) or RACGP Practice Eligible Pathway.
  • Advanced Skills Training Pathway

  • ­Available for ACRRM and RACGP Registrars undertaking a Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) qualification.
  • Comprises 12 months advanced specialised training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Paediatrics, Adult Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Surgery (24 months for ACRRM).
  • Current General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia with at least three years post-graduate experience in a Public hospital setting with a demonstrated commitment to rural practice and rural communities
  • Currently holds Fellowship as a General Practitioner or registered with a General Practice training program; AGPT, RVTS, ACRRM Independent Pathway or RACGP Practice Experience Program or evidence of acceptance to a general practice training program.
  • Commitment to undertake Advanced Skills Training in a speciality of your choice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how your intend to practice your chosen advanced skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working in a rural location.
  • Demonstrate an interest in and /or commitment to adapting new models of care, an understanding of the systematic processes in the provision of health care understanding of change management processes
  • Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies
