Aruma is seeking a dedicated and passionate Occupational Therapist who will utilise their skills and knowledge in Occupational Therapy ( hours negotiable) to provide flexible family centred services to children and adults with a disability and their families.
A day in the life of an Occupational Therapist … Assess the Occupational therapy needs of children and adults utilising appropriate assessments and investigation processes Develop professional relationships with families, which respect individual styles and acknowledge their strengths and capabilities. Provide assistance and support to families to enable them to identify their priorities and make informed decisions. Provide the family with appropriate information about all other available services which are relevant to the family and the child or customer with a disability and arrange any referrals if required Provide written assessment reports, including comprehensive recommendations, when necessary To participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of individualised service plans. To develop, record, monitor and regularly review individualised speech and language goals in relation to children’s Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and the adults NDIS goals. Provide individual and/ or group intervention sessions to address IEP goals. To provide interventions that promote learning through play and/or active participation for both adults and children, in both centre and home based settings. Plan, implement and regularly evaluate individual and specialist programs with the team. To provide on-going support, education and resources to families and carers Facilitate successful integration and inclusion of children and adults into existing programs Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, learning from and supporting all other team members, in order to best meet child and customer needs and priorities. Maintain communication with all other services and stakeholders relevant to a child or adult customer’s needs. These will include the family, staff and where relevant, appropriate Medical personnel, community team members, e.g., Preschool and Childcare staff, day service staff and community access providers Participate in and provide consultation to stakeholder meetings relevant to the child/customer. Participate in initial assessment interviews to determine appropriate ongoing service plan for the child/customer and their family. Reporting and recording client file notes.

Must have’s… Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy Membership of Occupational Therapy Australia ( or ability to attain membership) Driver’s Licence Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Current Working with Children Check Current Police check Integrity and a sense of humour Commitment to the ethos and ethics of the organisation
Nice to have’s… Demonstrated knowledge of child development and family-centred practice Knowledge of the National and State Disability Services Act, Disability Discrimination Act, and any other relevant legislation and its implications for service delivery Demonstrated ability to support children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders and other disabilities and their families in a range of issues Demonstrated ability to maintain positive, sensitive relationships between children, staff, parents, customers and Caregivers Demonstrated ability to support staff and impart skills and programming information Energetic, active personality with the ability to be part of a passionate team, acknowledging and valuing gains children make with a positive attitude Capacity to manage a diverse workload, prioritize and meet deadlines in a responsive manner. Possess the ability to work independently and co-operatively in a team environment Positive and encouraging attitude toward promoting the agency’s commitment to children, NDIS customers and total family care Understanding of the principles of natural learning environments Ability to show empathy and awareness of broad influences of child development and Parenting Sound computer experience in a Windows environment using Microsoft products
