  • The Role

    An APS5 Governance and Data Management Officer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the Logistics Management function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct assessment and perform procedural and clerical support work to achieve results.

    The APS 5 Governance and Data Management Officer may coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They may be a team coach or supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.

    The APS5 Governance and Data Management Officer will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

    Duties including but not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain Joint Logistics Command (JLC) business domain knowledge, data skills and awareness of data practices and procedures and trends.
  • Build sound understanding on all Defence data enterprise frameworks, strategies, statements and policies as required, in order to inform JLCs position.
  • Provide advice and assistance with governance that strengthens the integrity and resilience of Defence Logistics Information Systems (DLIS).
  • Support the Logistics Domain Data Steward assess, evaluate and improve data quality, business intelligence strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures.
  • To actively manage key stakeholder relationships and identify relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve JLC outcomes.
  • Provide advice on project management and business readiness outcomes in support of JLCs transformation program.
  • Undertake all personnel reporting within designated timeframes and facilitate opportunities for ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

    The Directorate of Logistics Systems Strategy & Assurance (DLSSA) is located in Canberra and Melbourne, and is one of three directorates within the Logistics Systems Branch. The Directorate consists of a blended APS, ADF and contractor workforce, many with deep subject matter expertise and specialist skills. It is agile to meet the changing business demands of the organisation, including embracing ERP.

Business and data analyst skills will be beneficial to the conduct of the role. Strong understanding of data management concepts, tools, and best practices. Project management skills are highly desirable.

    They will be able to manage the priorities and needs of the customers to meet and exceed their expectations by being able to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable. Have a good level of computer literacy, knowledge of business transformation initiatives. Possess excellent verbal and written skills and will be an effective team leader. Exercise sound decision-making and judgement, engage in complex problem solving and issues management and be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships.
