    Workforce Development engages with our people, to provide support for individual and collective capability development in the areas of leadership, learning and development, inclusion, diversity, social policy, and individual performance, as well as career and succession planning. The team is responsible for developing and implementing policies, strategies and programs, that support our people to manage, embrace and enhance workforce performance and support our people throughout every career stage with the department.

    Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for leading the Senior Officers Business Development Project to support senior leaders in developing their knowledge and understanding of business practices, policies, processes, and systems. You will provide detailed technical, professional, project management capabilities and expert advice in relation to the project deliverables, and will work closely with the Senior Project Officer and key stakeholders to identify, review, enhance, develop, and implement a suite of training modules which can be tailored to support appropriate workflows and programs for senior officers and set minimum standards of business knowledge (i.e. ICT, Finance, HR, etc.) for the department to assist in day-to-day decision making.

    As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

    Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

    Highly desirable requirements
    • Knowledge and/or qualifications in project management or previous experience leading or working in a large complex project/program management environment.
    • Knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of contemporary leadership and business skills development programs and learning items.
    • Ability to conduct public speaking and presentations to a broad range of stakeholders for the delivery of the Senior Officers Business Development Project.

    Your key accountabilities

    Responsibilities

    Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
    • Manage the on-time delivery of the Senior Officers Business Development Project, identifying opportunities to develop and improve business training solutions whilst ensuring they are responsive to business needs and recommendations.
    • Lead and manage the implementation of strategies and plans, in line with departments project management methodologies, tools and set timeframes to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
    • Support risk and issue identification, assessment and mitigation activities by ensuring risks and issues are documented, reviewed and escalated as appropriate.
    • Provide high-level advice to senior management and key stakeholders on a range of issues impacting and/or influencing the delivery of recommendations, to enable informed business decisions.
    • Manage or participate in project evaluation to address current and future workforce development and skill needs requirements to ensure desired outcomes are being achieved.
    • Conduct detailed research, demonstrating advanced critical analysis skills, for early identification and resolution of issues and maintaining contemporary knowledge of best practice in program development.
    • Develop, maintain and foster strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to optimise program delivery, drive innovative solutions, and facilitate effective communication to achieve project outcomes.
    • Prepare and review complex reports, submissions, briefs, correspondence and communication related to program strategy, performance, and delivery, in accordance with departmental requirements.
