    Planning Officer Opportunity in South-West WA

    Hays is partnering with a Government department in the Bussleton area to find a Planning Officer for a permanent role.

    Your New Role

    The Planning Officer will support the Senior Planning Officer in ensuring the Council meets its planning obligations and provides a high-quality service while following applicable policies and laws.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Strategic planning: assist the Senior Planning Officer in tasks such as amending schemes, creating local planning policies, delivering development contribution plans, preserving council heritage, and more.
    • Statutory planning: assist with processes including assessing development applications, preparing RARs, and addressing land use/development concerns.
    • Respond to complaints and investigate non-compliance with planning legislation.
    • Conduct compliance assessments and site visits.
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, consultants, and landowners.

    What You'll Need to Succeed

    • Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or similar equivalent.
    • Strong research, evaluation, and report-writing skills.
    • At least 3 years of experience working in statutory and/or strategic planning within local government.
    • Experience with local government planning processes, including building, public health, environmental management, and engineering.
    • Working knowledge of WA town planning legislation.
    • C Class Drivers Licence.
