    NATURE AND SCOPE:

    The Pre-K Lead Teacher position is under the supervision of the center manager and with support from Pre-K Services.

    The Rising Kindergarten Summer Transition, Program Lead Teacher position is 26-in person days: 23 instructional days with the students and 3 for teacher planning.

    The lead teacher summer position is funded through the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (Pre-K Division). YMCA Early Learning offers this position during the summer.

    The Lead Teacher is primarily responsible for organizing, planning, organizing and implementing instruction to support students that will attend Kindergarten during the upcoming school year that are in one or all of the below priority groups:

  • Did not attend a Georgia Pre-K Program or Head Start Program during the school year OR
  • Did not attend a Georgia Pre-K or Head Start program for the entire school year
  • Additionally, a student may also be eligible for attendance by meeting one of the following priority groups:

  • Child identified as needing additional academic support by their teacher or other data
  • Dual language learner (Home language is a language other than English)
  • Child family is without permanent housing (homeless as defined by McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act)
  • Child with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for working with Pre-K students
  • Implements activities as prescribed by Rising Kindergarten Curriculum
  • Prepares in advance lesson plans that include a balance of teacher directed and child-initiated activities, large group, small group and individualized instruction
  • Ensures that the classroom is set-up and ready for students upon arrival and throughout the day
  • Creates a learning environment that speaks to the goal of the Rising Kindergarten Transition Program
  • Actively participates in teaching activities by consistently moving around the learning environment indoors and outdoors; sitting or stooping to communicate at the student's eye level
  • Provides a classroom environment that promotes active learning
  • Redirects inappropriate behavior in a positive manner that is supportive and non-punitive by utilizing discipline methods that do not include; hitting, shoving, pinching, pushing, complete isolation or language that is harmful and hurtful to the students
  • Responds quickly to a student in distress or a crying student by immediately calming them in a nurturing and appropriate manner
  • Accounts for the student's attendance, punctuality and records accurately and in a timely manner in the roll book daily
  • Follows the Operating Guidelines required by Bright from the Start and YMCA Early Learning
  • Attends all required training for Pre-K teachers
  • Behaves in a professional manner that is always open, cordial to the children and families, and in the best interest of YMCA Early Learning
  • Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues and leadership
  • Value parents as important partners
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree preferred in Early Childhood Education or a related field
  • A recent graduate or one or more years of working with Pre-K and or Kindergarten students
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Note: Credentials MUST Be verified in the Georgia Professional Development System (PDS) before applying for this position. Only candidates verified in PDS will be accepted for Pre-Kteaching positions.

    Ergonomics: Sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift up to 25 pounds.

    Critical competencies based on needs specific to role: The Pre-K Lead Teacher will plan and implement instruction to students entering into kindergarten that will help them gain and strengthen critical skills required to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.

    Ergonomic Requirements:

    Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, seeing, verbal communication and hearing.
