    The First Nations Strategy and Partnerships Branch will develop and implement a program to align QFES with national and state government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples policy and undertake a comprehensive body of work to embed cultural capability across the agency. This will include the development of a comprehensive all-inclusive First Nations Framework to articulate the complex needs of the agency in regard to the First Nations voice in future policy decisions, culturally appropriate organisational systems and process, and encourage recruitment and ongoing support for paid identified employees and identified roles, and engagement protocols as part of delivering the agency's statutory and service obligations.

    Reporting to the Director, you will be a key member of the team, contributing to the design, implementation and review of strategic initiatives to embed cultural capability across the agency, including supporting and assisting QFES in the Queensland Government's Reconciliation and Tracks to Treaty programs. You will undertake research; draft project documentation, briefs, submissions and correspondence; monitor projects, undertake stakeholder engagement; and work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and key stakeholders to achieve outcomes that meet strategic organisational objectives and ensure positive outcomes for the workforce, community and QFES.

    As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

    Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

    Identified position
    • This is an identified position. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.     Highly desirable requirements
    • Knowledge and/or experience in the development and/or delivery of programs, projects and services that impact on First Nations Peoples and/or liaising directly with First Nations Peoples and communities.
    • Knowledge and experience in co-designing and delivering projects incorporating project management methodologies.

    Special requirements
    • The incumbent may be required to travel and work within their area of responsibility and may also be required to undertake intrastate, interstate deployment or travel as required, with the possibility of overnight stays.

    Your key accountabilities

    Responsibilities

    Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
    • Contribute to the implementation of strategies and plans of complex projects and ensure alignment with organisational requirements, best practice project methodologies and governance frameworks.
    • Undertake research and analysis, and interpret and solve problems to support the implementation of various initiatives and programs, including identifying opportunities for improvement in processes and service delivery.
    • Provide high level advice and recommendations to senior executives and key stakeholders regarding progress of projects and/or issues to support QFES strategic initiatives and enable effective decision making.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance and influence cultural capability through understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples culture and society, and the ability to engage in accordance with cultural protocols.
    • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project activities and ensure program delivery meets desired timeframes and budget allocations.
    • Assist in the preparation of submissions, briefs and other correspondence relating to program activities, and provide status updates and reports on outcomes, in accordance with department requirements and governance.
    • Represent the department in relevant forums and facilitate working groups to ensure key project deliverables and timeframes are achieved.
    • Work effectively in a professional working environment, fostering teamwork and encourage staff commitment and innovation, including actively participating in performance and development programs.
