Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our team in SLHD Mental Health Services.

The Walker Unit is an innovative purpose-built inpatient mental health unit providing longer admissions for young people aged 12-18 years who have not been able to discharged from acute wards.

It is the only Unit of its type in NSW and admits from NSW and ACT. It allows a comprehensive assessment and medium term admission (average six months) to provide multidisciplinary and evidence-based treatments. Staffing includes clinical psychology, social work, occupational therapy, art therapist, family therapists, nursing and peer workers.

The multidisciplinary team works closely with a small team of consumer peer workers and the Department of Education school on-site.

The young people typically have treatment-resistant psychosis, major affective disorders and disorganised attachment.

The work is intellectually challenging and the team supportive.

You will have the opportunity to teach medical students and trainees in psychiatry and to develop research in an area of interest.
