    About the role

    Our QLD State Government client is seeking a highly skilled UX Designer that will be responsible for leading user experience and interface design to enhance accessibility, usability, and value for Queenslanders, leveraging the Queensland Government Design System. Engage in comprehensive research, collaborate cross-functionally, create prototypes, facilitate workshops, adhere to design principles, and ensure adherence to visual and digital style guidelines while contributing to the development of the Design System and mentoring junior designers.

    Key responsibilities

    • Leading UX/UI Design: Spearhead the development of user experience and interface design strategies aimed at enhancing accessibility, ease of use, and overall value for Queenslanders accessing government services.
    • Utilizing Design System: Employ the Queensland Government Design System to create user interface templates, patterns, and components tailored for both web and mobile applications, ensuring consistency and adherence to established design guidelines.
    • Customer Insight and Research: Conduct comprehensive research to gain insights into the diverse needs, preferences, attitudes, and behaviors of users. Analyse data from various sources across channels to identify opportunities for product improvement and optimization.
    • Application of Design Frameworks: Refine and apply design frameworks and principles to guide the development process, ensuring that design decisions align with the overarching goals of creating user-centric and value-driven solutions.
    • Collaborative Work Environment: Foster an open, inclusive, and cross-functional work environment by collaborating closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders throughout the design and development lifecycle.
    • Client Engagement and Requirement Gathering: Liaise with agency clients to understand their specific design requirements, gather feedback, and document design specifications to ensure alignment with project objectives and user needs.
    • Prototyping and Conceptualization: Translate design concepts into tangible mock-ups and prototypes, allowing for visualization and validation of product features before full-scale implementation.
    • Facilitation of Workshops and Co-design Sessions: Participate in and lead customer and stakeholder workshops, leveraging co-design techniques to gather insights, generate ideas, and align stakeholders on design decisions.
    • Iterative Design Process: Explore and exhaust design options efficiently through benchmarking, ideation sessions, and sketching exercises, iterating on concepts based on feedback and evidence to refine the user experience.
    • User Testing and Feedback Incorporation: Organise, plan, moderate, and report on user testing sessions, observing user interactions and responses to iteratively improve designs. Additionally, collaborate with other teams to incorporate feedback from user testing into design iterations and ensure the final product meets user needs effectively.

    Skills and experience

    • Experience in Designing High-Traffic Digital Products: Proven track record in crafting digital solutions with a substantial user base, collaborating within agile software development teams to deliver effective outcomes.
    • Skill in Crafting Intuitive Interactions: Demonstrated ability to create straightforward and valuable user experiences even when faced with initially unclear or complex requirements, showcasing adeptness in distilling complexity into simplicity.
    • User Interface Design Proficiency: Expertise in user interface design, coupled with proficiency in utilising design tools such as Figma, Miro, and Adobe Creative Cloud to conceptualise and execute designs effectively.
    • Accessibility Compliance: Proficient in ensuring accessibility compliance, adhering to standards such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to guarantee inclusivity and usability for all users.
    • Technical Versatility and Expertise: Ideally, possess experience in one or more technical areas including design systems development, user testing methodologies, mobile application design, proficiency in front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JS), illustration skills, and UX writing proficiency.
