About Dr. Mittapally Sathish Kumar:
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering from the University College of Engineering, Kakatiya University, in 2003. Subsequently, I completed my M.Tech. in Mine Engineering from VNIT Nagpur in 2017 and was awarded a Ph.D. from NITK Surathkal in 2024. My doctoral research focused on Advanced Slope Monitoring Systems using the Internet of Things (IoT) to develop a Trigger Action Response Plan (TARP) in Opencast Coal Mines. I began my career as a Graduate Trainee from 2003 to 2005 at an iron ore mine in Goa. Following this, I joined Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Telangana, India, where I held various roles, including Under Manager at GDK 2&2A Incline, Assistant Manager at GDK 1&3 Incline and Adriyala Longwall Project, and Additional Manager in Corporate Planning and Projects. My tenure at SCCL extended from 2005 to 2020. Since 2020, I have been serving as a Professor of Practice in the Department of Mining Engineering, University College of Engineering (Autonomous), Osmania University, Hyderabad, India to establish the Department of Mining Engineering along with laboratories on deputation from SCCL. My expertise includes proficiency in Mine Planning and Design Software (Carlson, Surpac), and slope stability analysis software like Slide, Rocscience Phase2, Flac2D, and Flacslope. I have published more than 25 papers in national and international journals and conferences, focusing on areas such as Rock Slope Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Mine Planning, and Blasting. I have also contributed to research and consultancy projects, including one research project and four consultancy projects, in the fields of Mine Planning, Slope Stability, Rock Mechanics, Blasting, Slope Monitoring, and Numerical Modelling. I am a fellow member (FMEAI) of a professional organisation of the Mining Engineers' Association of India (MEAI) and a life member of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), and the Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI). Additionally, I was elected as a Council Member of MEAI for the term periods 2019–2021 and 2023–2025. My strengths include a solid academic background, expertise in software applications, a strong work ethic, obedience, sincerity, discipline, functionality, and a hardworking attitude grounded in strong morals. Additionally, I have attained the highest academic qualifications while working in a government organization, demonstrating exceptional commitment to excellence from reputed national-level institutions.
