Daleena Samarajiwa

I am a senior worker with a strong interest in working in leisure and health for seniors. I have a Certificate IV in Mental Health and am currently following the Diploma in Health and Leisure with Philipps Institute.  I have been volunteering at a residential aged care, occasionally assisting with group lifestyle activities and providing one-on-one befriending services to 3 high-care residents since October 2023. I also volunteer teaching chair yoga to seniors at two Neighbourhood Houses (community centres) in Melbourne. I have qualifications in yoga, meditation, massage and art.  

I hold a Certificate IV in Mental Health and am currently following the Diploma in Health and Leisure with Philipps Institute.  I have been volunteering at a residential aged care in Glen Waverley, occasionally assisting with group lifestyle activities and providing one-on-one befriending services to 3 high-care residents since October 2023. I also completed 80+ hours of workplacement at this residential aged care in August 2023. I also completed 90 hours of workplacement at Mental Health Foundation Australia. I also provide chair yoga classes for seniors at Springvale and Northern Dandenong Neighbourhood houses. 

While I lack formal work experience in Leisure and Health for seniors, I have a strong career in publishing and communications behind me. My desire to change careers is to get into an area of care work that I am passionate about - I love working with seniors and hope that I can do so for the rest of my working life.

• Diplomas in Massage Therapies including head and shoulders massages that seniors love very much.
• 500 Hours Diploma in Transformational Yoga
• I am a Permanent Resident of Australia
• NDIS clearance
• Working with Children clearance
• Police clearance for volunteering (activated August 2023 - willing to reapply). 
• Willing to take any other certifications such as CPR.
