My professional experience after Graduating from Curtin University as an undergraduate Business Degree:-

  • My professional experience after Graduating from Curtin University as an undergraduate Business Degree recipient (major in Information Processing) is within an Information Technology department at a private company.  Eg Wesfarmers Federation Insurance, WA Newspapers Ltd, SGIO Insurance, Burswood Resort Casino and Peter and Brownes as a Computer Programmer.  This is where I write code in a particular computer language e.g. RPG on AS400 machines that instruct the computer system to behave differently to ensure that the newly added functions as specified by Management are maintained.  This is done usually as a requirement of legislation changes or business improvement changes as directed by the Company's Director.
  • Worked at a Vineyard doing grape sales.  I sold Sultanas, Pearlette, Ruby Seedless, Ribia, Red Globe, White Queen.  Add on Sales included, Black figs, white figs, Prickly pear, Tomatoes, Water Melons, Rock Melons, Pomegranates, Loquats, Lady finger bananas and Black Olives.
  • At Water Corporation, which is neither a fully private or fully public entity, I was a Quality Assurance specialist i.e. Acceptance Tester (where I tested new functionality to the Drinking water Quality management system and the Wastewater Management system).  I also had to update user manuals with this new documentation.
  • At Notre Dame University, I was a Receptionist for the ERC (Edmund Rice Centre).  This Centre assisted the university students with units in Social Justice and Volunteering their time for excursions to East Timor.
  • At the State Department of Justice as a Finance Officer /Project Officer, I had to ensure that spreadsheets were updated according to departmental standards as advised by my Supervisor.

My professional experience during my studies at Curtin University :-

  • My professional experience during my University studies was at Myer Department Store at Booragoon.  This is where I was a Sales Assistant in the Lingerie and Menswear Departments. I also attended formal training for this for 8 weeks on a Thursday night in the Basement of the Fremantle Myer Store.  This was called the "6 Steps of Selling".
  • During university, I also assisted my father's private computing business with my time in entering customer records and production records into a newly created database for CBH (Co-Operative Bulk Handling) and Mallina Holdings.  CBH is a grain handling department and Mallina Holdings is an Attapulgite (kitty litter) supplier in large quantities for Mining spills.
  •  I worked for a week for an Accountant as his receptionist/Administrative Assistant on Kings Park Road. David Hughes.
  • I was a member/secretary of the Curtin Debating Society in which I was paid $20 every week to sit through two debates of a Year 8 and Year 10 team respectively for one evening every week.  Each team consisted of three Mercedes girls against three Trinity boys held at Trinity College, East Perth. I was the Adjudicator for these debates and had to assess their speeches and choose a winning team after both arguments.

My professional experience during my studies at  Secondary School - Mercedes College, Perth :-

  • My professional experience during my secondary schooling years at Mercedes College, Perth was at Coles Supermarkets Gosnells as a checkout operator.  It is here that I had to be good with handling cash monies and have the relevant customer service behaviour.
  • Youth of the Year Quest entrant in 1987 at the Criterion Hotel in Perth, where I was one of the three Mercedes College girls doing impromptu talks against three Trinity College boys.
  • I did 11 weeks of volunteer work as part of my Year 11 Community Service at a Disability School in Kenwick.  Myself, and a peer from school did Art Class with these students one afternoon every week.
  • For the poor, my secondary school sent out myself and a peer to the city of Perth to collect monies in a tin can.  My peer and myself went to the Service entrance of RPH (Royal Perth Hospital) to do this.
  • In Year 9, on Saturdays I volunteered to be a referee at a Public Outdoor Netball Centre with multiple courts.  I was refereeing 8 year old girl games.  I did this for a whole Winter in 1984.  I also played this sport at this Public arena during this same Winter with my age group.

My professional experience during my studies at Primary School - Sacred Heart Primary Thornlie :-

  • ESB Exams (English Speaking Board Exams) - When I was 10 years old, I attained a CREDIT grade by examiners from the English Speaking Board.  I had to recite a poem - I picked Robert Browning as my poet and I had to do a 5 minute talk on something.  I selected my holiday in July that year to Malaysia.  The place where I was born and was raised for 4 full years. We had a teacher who came into the class for lessons in elocution prior to this exam.
