    The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a world class specialist hospital in eye and ear care providing services across Victoria. As Australia's only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for over 160 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 90 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. The hospital recently completed a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

    TWO Fellowships available:

    1. February 2025 to February months)

    2. August 2025 to August months)

    Each Cornea Fellowship provides comprehensive training in the fields of cornea and eye banking. Fellows will have substantial exposure to the diagnosis and medical management of corneal and ocular surface conditions, corneal transplantation surgery, corneal cross-linking and excimer laser surgery.

    There are two main consulting clinics each week with up to eight consultant staff attending. In addition, there are weekly keratoconus and fellows' clinics and a monthly combined corneal/ocular immunology/oculo-plastics clinic. There is one supervised cornea theatre list per week per Fellow, in addition to a fortnightly fellow's list, cross-linking/ excimer list and treatment room list. Each Fellow participates in a 1 in 2 on-call roster for the Cornea Unit and is expected to take part in research and audit activities. In addition to sub-specialist clinics and theatres, Fellows will be rostered to shifts in our specialised Emergency Department. This is an excellent opportunity to maintain general ophthalmology skills, at the same time as providing a valuable educational resource to other medical staff working within the Department.
