Curtin Institute for Data Science

The Curtin Institute for Data Science (CIDS) is an interdisciplinary knowledge accelerator established in 2016 to meet increasing demand for computational modelling.Our aim is to apply data science and high-performance computing to provide innovative solutions to the real-world problems of government, industry, and academia.

The Institute supports a growing network of SMEs, external organisations, government departments, researchers, co-operative research centres, and not-for-profits across various sectors such as, but not limited to, health sciences, manufacturing, transport, art and culture, astronomy, agriculture, and aquaculture. At present the Institute would typically contribute to 30-40 research projects per annum, working with over 50 external organisations.

Research Data Alliance Community

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Community is global and diverse in nature, and the heart of the RDA is its community of over 14,000 professionals. The work of RDA is conducted through self-organized and vetted Interest Groups (IGs), Working Groups (WGs) and Communities of Practice (CoP) that discuss and build solutions (best practices, guidelines, standards, etc.) that solve real data sharing and re-use problems. RDA currently has over 100 active groups, (IGs, WGs and CoPs). RDA creates impact through both its work and its role as a "town square" for the data infrastructure community.

Australian Data Research Commons

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is Australia's leading research data infrastructure, funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). We partner with the research community and industry to build leading-edge digital research infrastructure to provide Australian researchers with competitive advantage through data. At the ARDC, we're accelerating Australian research and innovation by driving excellence in the creation, analysis and retention of high-quality data assets.

The ARDC was a founding member and a key partner in supporting RDA both globally and locally and is looking to support its growth in Australia with the appointment of a Regional Community Development Manager (Oceania and Eastern Asia). The position sits organisationally within the ARDC node hosted by the CIDS.

Your new role

As the RDA Regional Community Manager for the ARDC, you will play a pivotal role in engaging and growing the RDA community within Oceania and Eastern Asia. You will be responsible for managing engagement with the global RDA community, facilitating local growth, and coordinating regional stakeholder-specific impact and outreach resources. Your role will involve understanding, interpreting, and presenting the work of RDA groups to diverse audiences, as well as defining and coordinating short-term community-focused activities.

Responsibilities will include:

• Manage engagement with the global RDA community and facilitate local growth in accordance with RDA guiding principles.
• Maintain and manage RDA community support services, including webinars, web pages, mailing lists, and support tools.
• Understand, reinterpret, and present the work of RDA groups to audiences from diverse backgrounds.
• Create and deploy regional stakeholder-specific impact and outreach resources highlighting RDA work and related outputs.
• Coordinate dedicated short-term community-focused activities on topics of interest to regional stakeholders.
• Engage with the RDA Secretariat as the RDA Community Development Manager for Oceania and Eastern Asia.
• Liaise with RDA governance, management, and other RDA regional offices and hubs.
• Grow interest in the region for the International Data Week conference, including the 25th RDA Plenary Meeting in October 2025 in Australia.
