    Description

    Expression of Interest Trackwork Rider or Trackwork Rider Accreditation

    Racing Victoria (RV) offers various training courses designed to prepare individuals for careers in the thoroughbred racing sector. In addition to training, we can facilitate connections with potential employers.

    Are you interested in:

    • Starting a profession as a trackwork rider
    • Obtaining trackwork rider accreditation

    What we provide:

    • Training and accreditation for skilled riders looking to pursue a career in trackwork riding
    • Nationally recognized training certifications
    • Fully covered training with certain conditions
    • Support in securing employment

    Trackwork Riding Program (Certificate III in Racing)

    This program consists of 16 study units and lasts for 32 weeks. Key features include:

    • Weekly riding sessions initially conducted at a registered thoroughbred trainer's facility near Cranbourne or Ballarat. The latter part of the program involves training and assessment in the workplace.
    • Monthly theory sessions held in the evenings at Cranbourne Turf Club, Ballarat Turf Club, or similar venues
    • Independent theory assignments
    • Three-day workshops at Racing Victoria Headquarters (Flemington) covering topics such as racing integrity, equine welfare, personal conditioning, nutrition, and wellbeing. Participants will also have the chance to work with apprentice jockey coaches and mechanical horses.

    Trackwork Riding Requirements:

    To apply:

    • Minimum age of 15 by 01 January
    • Completion of mandatory units: BSBWHS211 and RGRPSH201
    • Proficiency in horse riding. Racing Victoria reserves the right to reject applications or remove participants from the program if they pose safety risks.

    Program Financing

    Racing Victoria covers the remaining course fees after government funding. Eligible participants pay no fees provided they meet specific criteria, including employment in the Victorian thoroughbred racing industry for at least three months.
